Domaine de Baron’arques 2008

An attractive, dark and deep garnet red, the wine has an intense and precise nose that opens on delicate aromas of spices, roses and plums macerated in spirits. Some roasted, toasted notes appear with airing.
From a supple and highly refined attack, the mid-palate rapidly emerges on smooth, patrician tannins enhanced by a youthful freshness.
The fruit, already there in the background, comes into its own, giving a harmonious, long and opulent finish.

2008 was a dry year with untypical weather patterns.
The winter was mild, with average temperatures 1.5 °C higher than normal, and very dry, with only 125 mm of rain between the 1st of November 2007 and the 31st of March 2008, half the average amount.
Rainfall levels returned to normal in spring and summer, which were rather cool, with average temperatures 1 °C less than normal.
Budbreak occurred early, starting on the 18th of March for the Merlot and ending on the 1st of April for the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Flowering took place between the 2nd and the 18th of June, the usual period for the estate.
Veraison began on the 1st of August for the earliest Merlot and ended on the 31st of August for the Grenache.
Picking took place in October in fine weather, enabling the polyphenols to reach optimum maturity.
