Domaine de Baronarques 2014

The wine has a beautifully clear, dark and deep colour.

The highly refined nose reveals delicate ripe fruit aromas in which bilberry and blackberry mingle harmoniously with judicious oak. Airing adds spice and liquorice notes to this wide array of aromas.

After a fresh and precise attack, elegant tannins coat the palate with a dense and rich texture. Perfectly mature red fruit flavours are set off by attractive peppery and spicy notes, while the long and complex finish reveals attractively intense fruit.

2014 began with a particularly mild winter: average temperatures in the first three months of the year were 2 °C higher than normal.

Budbreak came early as a result, starting on 17 March with the Syrah, 12 days earlier than in an average year, and ending on 1 April with the Cabernet Sauvignon.

After a wet and mild April, May and June were cool and dry.

Flowering took place between 2 and 13 June, two days later than in an average year.

July and August were rather cool, with regular rainfall.

Veraison started on 2 August with the Syrah and ended on 27 August with the Cabernet Franc, four days later on average than in a normal year.

September and October were hot and mostly dry, enabling the grapes to ripen fully and in excellent health.

The harvest took place in fine weather in October.
