Aspect: Dense and deep, with a violet tint.
The expressive and intense nose offers a pleasant array of roasted coffee and liquorice notes, then opens up on fruity, blackcurrant and cherry/kirsch aromas.
From an attractively fresh and expressive attack, the wine develops a compact, full-bodied and harmonious structure with perfectly integrated, silky tannins and controlled acidity. The long and expansive finish is set off by juicy, ripe fruit.
2009 was both wetter, with 605 mm of rain during the year, and warmer than the average of the last six years.
A cold and wet winter ended with a relatively warm month of March, the average temperature rising 0.4 °C higher than normal.
Budbreak occurred rapidly a week earlier than usual, starting on the 19th March for the Merlot and ending on the 24th of March for the Cabernet Franc.
A cool and wet April was followed by a warm and dry May.
Flowering took place between the 28th of May and the 11th of June, normal dates for the estate.
Summer was dry and hot, especially August, when the average temperature reached 22.9 °C.
Veraison began on the 25th of July for the Merlot and ended on the 24th of August for the Grenache.
Hot and dry weather in September brought the raisins to full maturity relatively quickly and picking began a week earlier than in a normal year.
